Super Smash Bros is the number one selling Gamecube title. Why Nintendo never released a sequel confuses gamers and critics alike. However, lucky for us Super Smash Bros Brawl will be headed to Nintendo’s next-generation console, Wii. Smash Bros has always been about playing with our favorite Nintendo icons and pitting them against each other in an old-fashioned beat down.
So far new characters to the series such as Wario Ware, Pit (Kid Icarus), MetaKnight and Zero Suit Samus have been unveiled. However those aren’t even the big surprises. For the first time ever, a third-party character will make his way into the franchise. He first appeared on the original NES system and has since had few appearances on Nintendo consoles. I’m talking about none other than Konami’s icon and Hideo Kojima’s creation, Solid Snake from Metal Gear.
This got us at The Game Feed thinking. What if Snake is just the tip of the iceberg? Why stop at just one third-party icon? Nintendo has made great relationships with third-party developers over the past few years, and it shows with the abundant support for Wii. Nintendo has teamed up with other publishers such as Sega, Capcom and Hudson Soft in the past to make a wide variety of great games. What if Nintendo used those relationships to bring their icons to Super Smash Bros Brawl?
So we came up with five third-party characters that we would love to see in the game for Wii. Here’s our list and hope that some of these just may end up being true.
Sonic The Hedgehog - Sega
Sega and Nintendo used to be rivals in a small video game console market. Ever since Sega’s demise and their decision to go software only, they have become quite good friends with their once arch nemesis. With numerous Gameboy and Gamecube games, many of which involve their star icon, Sonic would be a perfect fit in the Smash Bros universe.
Imagine racing around your enemies and knocking them over with the Sonic roll. Perhaps you could drill them from above with at Sonic spin, throw the golden rings at your opponents stunning them or even toss a classic bumper at your enemy shooting hit to the other side of the platform. Also, haven’t you always wondered who would win in a fight, Sonic or Mario? This would be the greatest showdown in video game history.
Pac-Man - Namco
When Namco decided to make a sequel to one of the greatest fighting games of all time, Soul Calibur, they wanted to do something special for each console. Soul Calibur II had a unique character created for each console and only for that console. PS2 got Heihachi from Tekken, Xbox got the comic book character Spawn, and the Gamecube got Link from The Legend of Zelda. It was a huge surprise that Nintendo lent Link’s likeness for the game, but it propelled the Gamecube version of Soul Calibur II well above the others in sales.
Now it’s Namco’s time to repay the favor by lending the likeness of their mascot, Pac-Man. Picture Pac-Man slowly flattening his enemies by rolling over them or throwing the Pac-Man dots from a distance. Don’t get too close to him either. You don’t want him chomping at you. Even worse, don’t let him pick up the invincible pellet, otherwise he’ll be unstoppable.
Bomberman - Hudson Soft
Hudson may not be as big or well known as Namco or Sega, but that doesn’t mean you haven’t played their games. Hudson has been partnering with Nintendo for years starting with the NES and even working on the well known Mario Party games. You’ve all seen their logo with the little bee, and you’ve also most likely played with their star icon, Bomberman. He has made his way onto every single Nintendo platform, and now he’s on his way to Wii as well.
Of course the first attack Bomberman would have in Smash Bros Brawl is the ability to throw bombs. There’s a reason why he’s called Bomberman. But over the 20 year history of this character, there are a few more attacks at his disposal. Lace the level with mines, beat up your enemy or toss a skull at them causing you to switch places with him or temporarily inverting his controls. But most likely, you’re mostly throwing bombs.
Mega-Man - Capcom
Like Hudson, Capcom and Nintendo have teamed up on numerous titles over the years over all of Nintendo’s platforms. They were even entrusted with one of Nintendo’s star franchises with The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures for the GBA. Now its time for Nintendo to bring Capcom’s star player to life, Mega-Man. He too has graced every Nintendo platform and numerous times at that. Capcom never fails to make more and more Mega-Man games.
Where do I begin with Mega-Man. The possibilities are endless. Mega-Man could use any of his former franchise enemies’ at his disposal for Super Smash Bros. He could use the Rolling Cutter or Fire Storm from the original NES game or the Water Wave and Silver Tomahawk from Mega-Man 5 & 6. The attacks at his disposal would be endless. The only problem developers would have is choosing which ones make the cut.
Prince of Persia - Ubisoft
Sure, I know what you’re saying. “The Prince is not a Ubisoft icon.” That may be true, but The Prince himself is an icon dating back to the 1980’s when Broderbund brought him to the masses on the Apple IIe. It’s only been recently that Ubisoft has brought this franchise back to the heights of the gaming world. Not only that, Sands of Time was not the first time Prince of Persia made its way onto a Nintendo Platform. The Prince did jump his way over to the NES, Super NES and Gameboy over the years.
More importantly than all of the history The Prince has, just think how cool it would be to play him in Smash Bros. His acrobatic skill would have him leaping, jumping, and climbing all over the levels. He could leap over his enemies and wrestles away their weapons, or just slash at them with a blade in each hand. Throw in elements from The Two Thrones and give him chain around his arm. Smash Bros is about combat, and The Prince would undoubtedly hold his own.
por lo que pude entender (estube traduciendo lo de sonic) dice que sega y nintendo desde el fallecimiento de sega se han hecho buenos amigos y que sonic en smash bros encajaria perfectamente
